New Hampshire: PrestateLocal

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Prior to the first state motor vehicle registration law of early 1905, there are no known automobile ordinances requiring registration, and no known pre-state plates, from any city.  Nashua had an automobile ordinance in effect by June 11, 1903, but this is believed to have contained speed limits and road regulations only.

The Boston Post published the following announcement on August 13, 1902:  "Concord, N.H., Aug. 12. - The first license to be granted in New Hampshire for the operation of passenger automobiles was given to local parties today."
